Hill destinations in Himachal Pradesh to avoid travelling to ..

The monsoon season has once again transformed Himachal Pradesh’s celebrated hill stations into high-risk zones. While tourists usually flock to Manali, Kullu, Dharamsala, Dalhousie, Lahaul Spiti, and McLeodganj during the rains for misty valleys and lush green landscapes, this year the weather has become more perilous than picturesque. The India Meteorological Department has advised travellers to avoid these destinations for now, warning of landslides, overflowing rivers, and blocked mountain roads.

The hill state has seen repeated disruptions over the past week, with flash floods cutting off key routes and rainfall-triggered slides stranding visitors in remote areas. Hotels and guest houses have reported cancellations as travellers heed advisories, while local authorities continue clearing debris and monitoring vulnerable stretches. For Himachal, a season meant to welcome tourists has instead turned into a season of road closures and rescue operations.

Neighbouring Uttarakhand is facing similar challenges, with flash flood warnings issued across nine districts. Rivers swollen by relentless rainfall have put infrastructure under pressure, making mobility risky even in areas popular for spiritual and adventure tourism.

For travellers, the message is clear. This is not the time for spontaneous road trips to the mountains. The promise of mist and solitude has been replaced by the reality of detours, delays, and potential danger. Until weather patterns settle, a visit to these otherwise breathtaking landscapes comes with more risk than reward. The safer choice is to wait for clearer skies, when Himachal and Uttarakhand can once again offer the unspoiled beauty and tranquillity they are known for.
