The Sports Ministry has made it mandatory for sports federations to obtain prior approval before organizing national-level sporting events, including National Games and National Championships.
According to new guidelines, all federations and sports bodies must seek the ministry's clearance before scheduling or conducting these events. This step is being introduced to bring better coordination and avoid overlapping tournaments across disciplines. The ministry emphasized the need for streamlined planning to ensure athletes can participate in important competitions without scheduling conflicts.
Officials noted that the move is aimed at strengthening governance and accountability within sports organizations. By having prior intimation and approval from the ministry, national sporting events can be better aligned with India's overall sports calendar and athlete preparation programs.
The revised protocol also seeks to prevent the misuse of the 'national' tag and ensure that recognized and properly governed events receive the support and infrastructure they need. The ministry will assess proposals based on factors such as timing, venue readiness, and logistical feasibility.
Federations are now expected to submit their event proposals well in advance to secure approval, enabling more structured development and enhanced athlete performance at the national level.
