Vitamin B12 deficiency: Symptoms you should not ignore

Vitamin B12 deficiency is becoming increasingly common and can lead to serious health concerns if left untreated. Often overlooked, its symptoms can range from subtle to severe, affecting both physical and mental well-being.

Common signs include constant fatigue, weakness, pale skin, and shortness of breath. Neurological symptoms such as tingling sensations in the hands and feet, memory issues, and difficulty concentrating may also surface. In severe cases, the deficiency can lead to nerve damage and mood disturbances like depression or irritability.

Vitamin B12 is crucial for red blood cell production and nervous system function. Since the body doesn’t produce it naturally, it must be obtained through diet—mainly from animal-based sources—or supplements.

Experts advise regular screenings, especially for vegetarians, older adults, and those with digestive issues. Early detection and timely intervention are essential to prevent long-term complications.
