While sea salt, pink Himalayan salt, and Celtic salt are marketed as healthier alternatives to table salt, health experts are raising alarms about their potential impact on heart health. Despite being rich in trace minerals, these "fancy salts" contain sodium levels comparable to regular salt posing similar cardiovascular risks when consumed in excess.
Nutritionists caution that the perceived benefits of these gourmet salts often lead to overuse, unknowingly increasing sodium intake. Elevated sodium levels are directly linked to high blood pressure, a major contributor to heart disease and stroke.
Cardiologists stress that no type of salt is inherently "heart-safe." The key lies in mindful consumption, regardless of the variety. The World Health Organization recommends limiting sodium intake to under 5 grams per day. As health fads continue to evolve, experts urge the public to prioritize moderation over marketing-driven choices.
