On April 14, 2025, pop sensation Katy Perry and five other women embarked on a historic 11-minute suborbital flight aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket, marking the first all-female crewed mission since 1963. The crew included journalist Gayle King, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, filmmaker Kerianne Flynn, and Lauren Sánchez, fiancée of Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos.
For this groundbreaking journey, the crew donned custom-designed spacesuits created by Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim, co-founders of the luxury fashion brand Monse. The suits featured a bodycon silhouette, mandarin collar, ombre effect, and zippers on the sides of each calf to create a flared shape. Designed to be both elegant and functional, the spacesuits were tailored using 3D body scans to ensure a perfect fit.
This mission not only celebrated female empowerment but also showcased a shift towards more personalized and stylish space attire, challenging traditional perceptions of astronaut uniforms. The flight emphasized the importance of women in STEM and aimed to inspire future generations to pursue careers in science and technology.
