Shakitamaan’ update: Mukesh Khanna says the movie has hit a roadblock

’90s kids and nostalgia walk hand in hand, always side by side. So anything stamped with the magic of the ’90s is bound to tug at their heartstrings. And for them, Shaktimaan isn’t just a TV show—it’s their entire childhood, wrapped in that iconic spin, moral lessons, and the promise that good will always triumph over evil. That’s why when Mukesh Khanna announced a feature-length adaptation of the superhero saga, excitement shot through the roof. But like every superhero’s journey, this one too has hit a bump.

Speaking to IANS, Mukesh Khanna revealed that while the movie is ready to enthrall audiences, it’s currently stuck due to an unspecified “roadblock.” Though he kept the details vague, he assured fans that Shaktimaan will eventually make it to theaters, calling it an “important film” that deserves the big screen.

Earlier this year, Khanna briefly returned as the caped hero for a patriotic song, sparking speculation about him reprising the role for the film. But in a candid clarification on X (formerly Twitter), he reminded fans that there can only ever be one original Shaktimaan—him. “Without me there cannot be another Shaktimaan,” he wrote, adding that his legacy isn’t about competing with actors like Ranveer Singh or anyone else who might wear the mantle in the future, but about protecting the essence of the character.

For now, the superhero remains in waiting, but if there’s one thing Shaktimaan has taught us, it’s patience. Evil takes time to defeat, and so, it seems, does bringing back our childhood hero to the big screen.
