Bigg Boss 19: Amaal Mallik reveals s

The nineteenth season of Bigg Boss opened on August 24 with Salman Khan presiding once again over a premiere that blended spectacle with confession. Among the contestants who walked into the house, singer and composer Amaal Mallik stood out not for theatrics but for candour. On stage, he revealed that he has long battled clinical depression and lives with sleep apnea, a condition where breathing repeatedly halts during sleep, forcing him to rely on a CPAP machine to regulate airflow. Viewers later saw him using the device inside the house, a rare instance of medical vulnerability made visible on primetime television.

Mallik’s decision to participate in Bigg Boss was framed as a deeply personal choice. Addressing Salman Khan, he recalled how the superstar had played an unspoken role in his career a decade ago, when his songs first gained traction. “You were the one who gave me that start ten years ago,” he said, adding that he wished now to explore a new facet of himself with the same audience.

Speaking about his sleep apnea, Mallik even joked that fellow contestants would need to bear with his snoring, before pivoting to a more serious reflection. Success, he admitted, had arrived early, altering both his pace and his perspective. At 24 he was riding an overwhelming wave of acclaim, but with time he has slowed down, mellowed, and grown reflective. This show, he explained, is his way of letting people meet the man beyond the music, the individual whose social media missteps sometimes stole headlines, but whose reality is more nuanced than those moments suggest.

With an eclectic cast that includes Gaurav Khanna, Ashnoor Kaur, Awez Darbar, Nagma Mirajkar, and Zeishan Quadri, Bigg Boss 19 promises its usual cocktail of drama. Yet Mallik’s entry has already reminded audiences that honesty can be the most compelling act of all.
